Folk Oils buys directly from Kenya, small independent farmers in the semi-arid regions of the Kitui corridor and around Lake Victoria. Direct contract, guaranteed price higher than the local market, zero intermediate collectors. Kenyan sesame produces an oil with a distinctive natural toasted character, among the most popular in our multi-origin range.

The international sesame trade is traditionally dominated by a cascade of intermediaries: village collectors, regional aggregators, national exporters, international brokers, importer-distributors. Each actor takes his commission without bringing any real value to quality; on the contrary, each transfer is an opportunity for mixing batches, dilution of origin, undetected qualitative degradation. Folk Oils contracts directly with each cooperative or farmer group. We purchase the seed, provide transport to our production unit, cold press and ship directly to our international customers. The seed never changes ownership anonymously, each batch is linked to an origin, a harvest, a pressing date.

Working with five producing countries is not a risk diversification strategy, it is a deep conviction. Farmers who grow sesame in Burkina Faso, Mali, Uganda and Kenya are among the most exposed to the instabilities of global agricultural markets. Folk Oils offers them what the traditional chain refuses them: a direct buyer, a stable price, a readable contract. Guaranteed purchase price higher than the spot market, in each of our five partner countries, price contractually higher than the local price, stable over the season. Direct contracts with cooperatives, Béni Mellal groups, Northern Ugandan cooperatives, village groups in Burkina. No intermediary aggregator.
