FolkCarbon RBA · v3

Every order mobilises the argan grove. CO₂ sequestration appears on the invoice.

Folk Oils calculates and documents CO₂ sequestration from the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve (RBA) on every B2B invoice — cross-verified data from DARED/INRA-Agadir 2025, NEXT-FAO Souss-Massa 2024 and official ANDZOA stocks.

Corrections & cross-checks

Correction #1 — soil 2.26 Mt CO₂ projection

50,000 ha × 5.65 = 282,500 tCO₂/year (≠ 2.26 Mt). The 2.26 Mt figure is 400,000 ha RBA × 5.65. Check: 400,000 × 5.65 = 2,260,000 ✓

Correction #2 — DARED 180 kg/ha yield vs official yields

15–44 kg fruit/tree (S4) × 200 plants × 0.125 = 375–1,100 kg oil/ha (mature orchard). DARED 180 kg/ha applies to young 2–7 year orchards (~7 kg fruit/tree), consistent with DARED 2021 plantations.

Check — 50,000 ha biomass

50,000 × 63.56 = 3,178,000 tCO₂ · study value: 3,177,851 tCO₂ · delta = 149 tCO₂ (rounding) ✓

Check — sector carbon balance

Sequestration (soil 4.69 Mt/year) > 2030 emissions (4.63 Mt) → 2030 net positive 56,818 tCO₂ ✓ confirmed by S3 study.

S3 finding — Souss-Massa official yields

15–44 kg fruit/tree (6 registered varieties). Under 7 years production = 0 t/ha · 7–20 years = 1 t/ha · over 20 years = 5 t/ha. Grid emission factor = 0.718 kgCO₂/kWh.

7 FolkCarbon actions on the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve

Forest protection, DARED orchards, invoice premium, renewable energy, biochar, enriched soils and genetic resilience — quantified, traceable mechanisms.

1

Protection & maintenance of forest sequestration

The natural argan grove (830,000 ha) sequesters 4.69 Mt CO₂/year in soils. By protecting the forest, Folk Oils maintains this stock — every tonne of oil purchased helps fund guarding and non-degradation of the UNESCO arganeraie.

4.69 Mt CO₂/year

RBA soil sequestration

2

Biomass carbon credits — DARED orchards

Each hectare mobilised for argan sequesters 6.98 tCO₂/ha (DARED/INRA 2025 measurements); intensive scenarios documented up to 63.56 tCO₂/ha. The 50,000 ha planned by 2030 represent 3.18 Mt tCO₂ accumulated biomass, certifiable under VCS/Verra.

3.18 Mt

tCO₂ biomass (50,000 ha)

3

FolkCarbon B2B invoice premium

For each litre ordered, Folk Oils calculates tCO₂ sequestered proportionally to hectares mobilised. Carbon attestation attached to every invoice — documented, verifiable ESG lever for your European B2B buyers.

$0.10

per litre (7-year orchard, VCS $15/t)

4

Renewable energy transition — sector decarbonisation

Electricity accounts for 57.1% of sector emissions by 2050. Switching partner cooperatives to solar PV avoids these emissions at scale — “renewable supplier” bonus integrated into the FolkCarbon programme.

34.3 Mt

tCO₂e avoidable (2050)

5

Shell biochar valorisation

50% of fruit production becomes shells. Pyrolysis into biochar permanently sequesters ~30% of carbon (>100 years). Direct complement to FolkCarbon and agroCO₂ press-cake valorisation.

110,711

tCO₂/year biochar (2050)

6

Soil sequestration — amendments & mulching

Organic amendments, mulching and support irrigation: +5.65 tCO₂/ha/year measured by INRA. DARED-recommended practices applied by Afoulki Cooperative on partner orchards.

770,174

tCO₂/year soil (136,314 ha, 2050)

7

Genetic restoration & climate resilience

Balanced approach of local + varied seeds to maximise adaptation. Folk Oils values this biodiversity in FolkCarbon as a certifiable co-benefit (Gold Standard >$20/tCO₂).

03

Durable storage (5–30 years)

Long-lived argan tree; multi-year cooperative contracts; monitoring per CRCF and VCS requirements.

04

Biodiversity co-benefits

UNESCO arganeraie, anti-desertification, rural women's income (Afoulki), documented soil practices with ASMEL.
