FolkCarbon methodology — calculation transparency

This page explains how the ratio shown on our B2B invoices is calculated, which sources we use and what limitations apply.

Reference ratio

≈ 35.7 t CO₂

attributed per 1,000 L argan oil (920 kg)

5.11 ha of arganeraie mobilised · Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve (RBA, UNESCO) · attributed sequestration — not certified to date

Methodology version : FolkCarbon Official Final — DARED/INRA-Agadir 2025 (n=89)

Last revised : 11 July 2026

Calculation formula

tCO₂ = (litres × 0.920 ÷ yield kg/ha) × sequestration tCO₂/ha

Documented example: 1,000 L × 0.920 ÷ 180 × 6.98 ≈ 35.68 tCO₂ (direct measurements DARED/INRA-Agadir 2025, n=89).

Scope

  • Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve (RBA), Souss-Massa, Morocco
  • Measured biomass + soil sequestration (coefficient 6.98 tCO₂/ha)
  • Reference yield 180 kg/ha (DARED/INRA field data)
  • Out of scope: downstream client transport, packaging, finished product use

Assumptions & limitations

  • Argan reference yield: 180 kg/ha (DARED/INRA-Agadir 2025 measurements)
  • Argan oil density: 0.920 kg/L
  • Sequestration coefficient: 6.98 tCO₂/ha (measured biomass + soil, n=89)
  • Attribution documented on invoice — not a certified carbon credit (VCS/Verra in preparation, target 2027–2028)
  • Annual parameter update planned with INRA

Calculation steps (simplified)

1. Ordered volume

Litres of argan oil on the B2B invoice (e.g. 1,000 L).

2. Mass

Litres × 0.920 = kg of oil (e.g. 920 kg).

3. Equivalent area

Mass ÷ 180 kg/ha yield → hectares mobilised (e.g. ≈ 5.11 ha).

4. Attributed tCO₂

Hectares × 6.98 tCO₂/ha → ≈ 35.68 t (display ≈ 35.7 t) + carbon-market premium.
